Today, U.S. Energy has operations in 8 States & Canada, overseeing an estimated $1 Billion in natural gas & oil reserves (operated and non-operated).
Below is a brief description of U.S. Energy's primary areas of operation in Western New York & Western Pennsylvania:
Western New York
Primarily Natural Gas Projects
Natural gas has been produced in Western New York since 1821 when the first natural gas well was drilled to a shallow depth of 70 feet in Chautauqua County, New York. The gas from that well was used in homes and to light street lamps.
Today, there are an estimated 75,000 total natural gas and oil wells in New York State. Most of the area targets the Medina formation, a geological layer that is fairly easy to access due to its shallow location 1,000 to 3,000 feet below the surface. U.S. Energy has targeted several areas throughout Western New York which have good potential for natural gas. A typical U.S. Energy gas well ranges in depth from 2,000 - 5,000 feet.
Western Pennsylvania
Primarily Crude Oil Projects
The upper Devonian sands are roughly 375 million years old and have produced abundantly since before the turn of the 19th century. Colonel Drake discovered that oil can be produced from these sands in the first drilled well in the late 1800's near Titusville, PA. Shortly thereafter, producers drilled and discovered oil near Bradford in a number of formations. The Bradford Third Field and the surrounding area produced nearly 700,000,000 barrels of oil and was once the largest oil field in the world! Companies like Pennzoil, Quaker State, Dresser Industries, Birdwell, Forest Oil and many others all got their start here.
There are several potential pay zones that U.S. Energy targets for hydrocarbon production in the Western Pennsylvania portion of the Appalachian Basin. They include the Bradford 1st, Bradford 2nd, Cherry Grove, Clarendon and the Bradford 3rd. A typical U.S. Energy developmental oil well in Western Pennsylvania is drilled to a Total Depth (TD) of 1,000 to 2,250 feet. |
